Week One: The Unexpected King

January 17, 2016 Preacher: Jeff Vanderstelt Series: The Unexpected Jesus - Missing the Messiah

Passage: Mark 1:1–1:15

Week One: The Unexpected King

Passage: Mark 1:1-15

Summary: Mark shows how Jesus is the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecies. The gospel that has been proclaimed throughout the ages of God’s coming King is fulfilled in Jesus. He is the good news sent by God. He is the Son of God – the Lord. And just as the prophets were sent to prepared God’s people, John is sent to prepare the way of the Lord. Jesus comes through the Jordon as the better Israel, is anointed by the Spirit as the better King, overcomes temptation as the Overcoming One and calls all to repent and believe this good news. Jesus didn’t just come to preach the gospel but to be the good news of the Kingdom of God.

Jesus is the good news.
