Week Twenty-Four: The Unexpected Interrogation
Passage: Mark 12:13-34
Summary:
The Sanhedrin consists of three major groups, Pharisees, Sadducees and scribes. In this section, each one of them puts Jesus to the test - the Pharisees on taxation, the Sadducees on resurrection, and the scribes on the question of scriptural interpretation. In each story Jesus is addressed as Teacher and in each response Jesus demonstrates his authority. He upholds government while also upholding God’s sovereignty over all rulers. He corrects wrong views while also affirming the resurrection, upholding God’s power. And he upholds the law as it calls us to love God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength. And love our neighbor as one’s self.
Submission to God is summed up in love
