ADVENT - Week One: This Child Is GOD
November 27, 2016 Series: ADVENT: What Child is This?
Passage: Luke 1:26–38
Christians insist that the Jesus of the Gospels was not just a catalytic leader or great teacher but in fact God Himself. It is a core doctrine of the Christian faith and a key theme of the Christmas narrative. Why does this matter so much? Why do Christians insist on the divinity of Christ and what implications does it have for the Christmas narrative specifically and what does it mean practically for Christmas celebration? The claim that the child Jesus was God incarnate raises the stakes of this story to unprecedented levels. It challenges even our most basic assumptions and shakes us out of our sentimental slumber. God came to earth because the earth was so dark and scarred that it was doomed to it’s chosen fate. That’s where the Christmas story begins.
