ADVENT - Week Four: This Child Is King
Passage: Matthew 2:1–2:12
“In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: “And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.” Jesus is our King. This is a political statement as much as it is a theological one. When the wise men asked Herod to see the King of the Jews, they implied that it was not him. Jesus makes a claim on our allegiance and Christmas is our annual reminder and celebration of this truth. Who is our King and what does it mean to be a part of his Kingdom?
Christmas makes us choose our King.
